SILO-KING®
AN INDUSTRY LEADER IN CROP PRESERVATION & UTILISATION

There is no substitute for good practice when ensiling forage crops, but the use of an additive at harvest time can reap huge benefits during both the ensiling process, and subsequent feed-out of the ensiled forage.

Silo-King® is our multi-purpose forage and grain treatment programme, designed for use on grass silage, maize silage, wholecrop, crimped grains, legumes and ensiled fodder beet and wet grains.

HOW DOES SILO-KING® WORK?

1

Fermentation

This is the process bacteria use to change sugars into lactic acid. When ensiling a crop, this must happen quickly to bring down pH and make the silage stable, minimising energy loss as heat.

Silo-King® contains 3 unique strains of lactic acid producing bacteria, all with rapid doubling time.

pH is reduced quickly, inhibiting mould and yeast growth, reducing energy loss and increasing nutrient retention.
2

Enzyme Technology

The inability of an animal to access and utilise the nutrients and minerals in the silage can be a major frustration for livestock producers. This is because those nutrients are contained within cellulose cell walls, an obstruction to absorption during the digestive process.

There are 16 different enzymes in Silo-King® that speed up these chemical reactions and help rumen microbes take up nutrients.

The enzymes in Silo-King® have all been verified as efficacious by the European Commission.
3

Preservation

A key goal when clamping or ensiling forage crops is exclusion of moulds, yeasts and unwanted bacteria. This provides its own challenge – inhibiting these without harming the action of lactic acid producing bacteria.

Silo-King® contains a food grade preservative called Potassium Sorbate, which changes to sorbic acid when moisture is encountered, damaging the cell walls of moulds and yeasts without impacting on lactic acid bacteria.

Silo-King® preservative works at all stages of the process, including the feed out phase.
4

Oxygen Exclusion

Even with good compaction techniques, it is inevitable there will be a level of oxygen in the ensiled crop. This means respiration, which uses energy to generate heat, taking away from available energy in the silage.

Oxygen also encourages aerobic conditions conducive to bacteria producing butyric acid instead of lactic acid. This prevents the quick reduction of pH, increasing spoilage and reducing nutrient value.

Silo-King® contains antioxidants which reduce oxygen in the clamp to a minimum, and stop it from reacting with the sugar in the crop.

What Makes
Silo-King® Different?

  • Silo-King® helps get the environment right
  • Silo-King® helps speed up fermentation by dropping pH fast
  • Treating with Silo-King® helps reduce dry matter loss
  • Treating with Silo-King® helps provide softer feed (lower ADF/NDF)
  • Treating with Silo-King® helps forage retain more calories

How do you Apply Silo-King®?

Agri-King can provide a range of applicators and cab-based controllers to suit your requirements,
depending on the conditions and size of your operation.
